K College and the Kingdom of the Crystal Balls

So this Saturday is Crystal Ball. You know what that means…? Because I don’t. Every year it is an unpredictable escapade. Most people who go there go drunk - that’s a given. Some men dress up as women, and some women dress up as men. Some men dress as men, and some women as women. Which can make it problematic when you go to the dance floor.

Hopefully this year the dance floor will actually be good. The DJ that has been at all the other school events this year has sucked. No offense to him personally, but DJing is all about feeling the mood and energy of the audience, and flowing with that. It’s about build-ups and break-downs and everything in between. It’s about beat-matching and mad transitions that make you want to go crazy. The DJ the school has been using has a good sound system, but it seems as if he just puts iTunes on shuffle. Seriously now, come on!

Also, there’s no way to know what the administration will do. In the past they’ve taken a back seat and just intervened when someone’s well-being is at stake. This year though, they’ve been using RAs as tools to crack down oppressively on our privacy and ‘weekend enjoyments’ (remember Monte Carlo if you lived in the dorms?). Let’s hope this weekend won’t be a repeat performance of that bribery and authoritarian policing of the hallways.

The event itself is usually a lot of fun though, with most of the student body showing up. So let’s see what goes down this year - whatever happens, it’ll be a ball. A crystal ball. (Yes, I really did just make that pun. Want to fight about it?)
